Offering a new beginning for 20 children and their families was the objective that The Heart Fund fixed. During a week, doctors and surgeons from The Heart Fund and AIMS hospital performed an incredible job of operating 20 children.
In December 2014, The Heart Fund team arrived in Kochi, India, accompanied by two ambassadors: actor Gary Dourdan and model Alina Baikova. Solicited by Indian philanthropist and spiritual leader Amma, to help children with congenital heart disease, Dr. David Luu's team and Dr. Khrisna Kumar's team allowed 20 children to be treated permanently. All of the children travelled hundreds of kilometers with their parents to reach the hospital in Kochi, Kerala, in southern India. All were operated free of charge, 10 children were treated with cardiac surgery and 10 were treated with interventional catheterization.
The Heart Fund has formalized a long-term collaboration with AIMS to develop access to cardiac care for disadvantaged children in India and to develop a pediatric heart transplant program.
