Each year 1 million children are born with a heart defect in the world. India alone with 200,000 per year, is the country with the highest number of infected children. The foundation Embracing the World and its founder Amma have asked The Heart Fund to support the pediatric cardiac surgery and transplantation project.
Dr. David Luu, Virginie Gallardo and Paul Nguyen traveled to Kochi in southern India to develop a lasting partnership with the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences. The objective of this partnership is to promote the fight against congenital heart disease through sustainable solutions including prevention, training, equipment support and epidemiological research. The Heart Fund and AIMS are committed to collaborating in the expansion of pediatric cardiac surgery, interventional catheterization and the development of heart transplantation.
